Spiders Snag Seven, Top Five Finishes at Tribe Invite

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women’s track & field team made its outdoor season debut at the Tribe Invitational on Saturday and picked up seven, top five finishes from the group of 10 that competed.

The 4x400m Relay team made up of freshmen Gabby Bowen, Maria Acosta and Claire Brown along with junior Stephanie Hughes shined bright, finishing second in the event with a time of 4:01.92. Only the Norfolk State ‘A’ team ran faster on Saturday.

Three Spiders took the track in the 800m run and all three finished in the top four, claiming spots two, three and four. Acosta was tops in that group, finishing second with a time of 2:13.09, continuing the stellar start to her Spider career. Brown finished third in 2:16.54 and Hughes was fourth with a time of 2:22.79.

In the 400m dash it was freshman Morgan Towe running fast to earn a third place finish with a time of 1:01.32. Her teammate, sophomore Chloe Smith followed closely behind in fifth with a time of 1:03.42. Junior Liz Montague grabbed the only other top five finish, placing fourth in the Triple Jump at 10.27m.
