Rob Jones, an assistant coach for four seasons after serving three as the director of basketball operations, has helped guide the Spiders to four 20-win seasons, four postseason appearances and final national rankings of No. 24 in 2009-10 and No. 21 in 2010-11 all in the last five years.

The sixth season for Jones on the staff at the University of Richmond ended with an Atlantic 10 Championship, second-straight NCAA Tournament bid, Sweet 16 appearance and a second-straight final Top-25 ranking for the Spiders.

Richmond won a school record 26 games in 2009-10, finished 13-3 in Atlantic 10 play, reached the A-10 title game and received an at-large bid as a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Spiders broke that school record for wins in 2010-11 finishing 29-8 and 13-3 in A-10 play, reaching the title game for the second-straight year and coming away with its first A-10 Championship in 10 years in the league.

The Spiders defeated No. 25 ranked Vanderbilt and Morehead State to reach the 2011 Sweet 16. Richmond's recent success has also included a 32-7 record against Atlantic 10 teams in the last two years, tournament victories in the South Padre Island Invitational (wins over Missouri and Mississippi State), the Chicago Invitational Challenge, defeating No. 8 Purdue in the title game, and the Orange Bowl Classic, defeating No. 13 Florida.

The Spiders have eight victories over BCS conference teams in the last two years, including a five in the 2010-11 season. Richmond has won seven of its last 10 games against ranked opponents.

Jones is responsible for player development, on-court coaching, recruiting, opponent scouting and game preparation. He also monitors the academic progress of the student-athletes. During his first three seasons at Richmond, Jones was the director of basketball operations. He was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the basketball office, film breakdown, team travel, organizing the recruiting database and served as the summer camps director.

In 2004-05, Jones helped Alabama-Huntsville to a 16-12 record and third-place finish in the Gulf South Conference East Division. He was responsible for scouting opponents, film breakdown, perimeter player development and on-court coaching.

Prior to his stint at Alabama-Huntsville, Jones spent two years as the varsity assistant and junior varsity coach at Salem High School in Conyers, Ga. During his time at Salem, the basketball team produced its first winning season in school history.

Originally from Jefferson City, Mo., Jones played his prep career at New Bloomfield High School where he was an all-conference and all-district performer in both his junior and senior year. He helped lead the team to the state final four in his junior year.

After completing high school, Jones attended Toccoa Falls College in Georgia. As a player at Toccoa Falls, he was an All-South Region performer ranked statistically among the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) leaders in three point percentage, free throw percentage as well as assists.

Jones graduated from Toccoa Falls with a bachelor's degree in secondary education and a minor in physical education. He and his wife Kristina currently reside in Richmond, Va.
