AUBURN, Ala. - In her second-consecutive NCAA Championship appearance, junior Lauren Hines touched in a new school-record time of 52.59 to qualify for Friday's consolation finals in the 100 back at Auburn's James E. Martin Aquatics Center. Finals are set to start at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Hines (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley) finished fourth in her heat with a time of 52.59 to reset her own school record in the event (52.76) previously established at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship. She will be seeded 13th in tonight's consolation finals heat.
The 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier will also compete in the 200 back prelims on Saturday after turning in a school-record and "B" qualifying time of 1:56.81 at February's A-10 Championship.
Hines joins an elite group in Spider alumni Lauren Beaudreau, Katie Sieben and Jessica Witt who also qualified for the NCAA Championship during Barany's tenure, bringing the total to six Spiders representing the program on the national stage.
