Richmond captured four of the six singles matches to rally past ECU, 4-3, Tuesday night at East Carolina.

After dropping the doubles point, the Spiders took No. 1 singles behind the powerful play of Joanna Matuszczyk's victory over Natalie Collins, 6-2, 6-7, 6-4. Helen Cunningham recorded a win at No. 3 singles with a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 win over Neena Wanko.

Nil Horoz followed with a victory at No. 4 singles with a dominant 7-6, 6-3 victory. Mariana Arana beat Abby Richmond at No. 6 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Matuszczyk's victory clinched the win for the Spiders as they improved to 9-3. ECU falls to 7-12 on the season.

"We have been training very hard last week and had good practices in the morning that have improved my game and prepared me for this third set," says Matuszczyk. "I think that extra workouts have led me to today's win and I am happy I was able to perform my 100% to win this match."

Richmond returns to action Thursday as it hosts JMU at 2:30 p.m.
