Zac Gibbens comes to Richmond after having previously served as an assistant coach at High Point for three seasons. Gibbens served as the Panthers’ goalkeeping coach and also assisted in scouting, academic support, recruiting and all other day-to-day operations.

While at High Point, the Panthers averaged more than 10 wins per season and captured the 2010 Big South Conference Regular Season Championship. Gibbens coached four-year starting goalkeeper, Michael Chesler, who left HPU as the most decorated goalkeeper in program history. Chesler graduated with the High Point career record in wins, shutouts and goals-against average while also setting new school records for single-season wins, shutouts and goals-against average, all under Gibbens guidance.

Prior to High Point, Gibbens spent the 2008 season at the University of Dayton as goalkeeper coach. He was responsible for developing and implementing the goalkeeper training program in addition to assisting with recruiting efforts. Gibbens tutored redshirt-freshman Tyler Picard to two Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week awards, a 0.97 goals against average and a 13-2-2 record.

Gibbens graduated from the University of Dayton in 2007. In his senior season, he went 10-4-5 with six shutouts between the pipes, earning him honorable mention all-conference honors. The Flyers’ 2007 Defensive Player of the Year, he was one of four Atlantic 10 goalkeepers who played every minute in net for his team and finished his career second on the program’s all-time goals against average with a 0.89 clip.

Preceding his move to UD, Gibbens spent three seasons at Creighton. After redshirting his first year, he went on to make three starts and appeared in five matches. His first collegiate start came against No. 23 Tulsa on October 3, 2004, a game in which he made five saves in a 4-0 shutout. He did not allow a goal in his first 219:40 minutes of collegiate play.

Gibbens, a native of Loveland, Colo., holds an Advanced National Diploma with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He currently resides in Richmond.
