UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Six Spiders were honored as members of the VaSID Academic All-State team, joining 150 student-athletes from 26 schools in Virginia.
Men's golfer Nick Austin, track & field's Devin Cassels, swimming & diving's Mali Kobelja, field hockey's Katelin Peterson, women's tennis player Elizabeth Sims and football's Cooper Taylor received the honor.
Austin, a junior business administration/management major from Midlothian, Va. had a 3.47, had a 73.50 scoring average with three top-10 finishes and was selected to the Atlantic 10 Men's Golf All-Conference Team.
Cassels, a senior mathematical economics major from Lewisburg, Pa., broke a 38-year old school pole vault record in his final collegiate home meet.
Mali Kobelja, a sophomore PreMed major from Fort Wayne, Ind., recently competed at the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials after earning Most Outstanding Performer at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
Peterson, a senior psychology major from Escondido, Calif., finished her career fourth on Richmond's all-time career list in points, goals and assists as she earned First-Team All-Atlantic 10 honors for the third-time in her career.
Sims, a sophomore business administration/finance major from Roswell, Ga., was an All-Atlantic 10 Conference and Academic All-Conference selection who clinched the A-10 team title for the Spiders.
Taylor, a junior business administration major from Atlanta, Ga., was a CAA Football All-Academic Team selection, had 63 tackles, including 20 solo.
