UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond was tabbed to finish second in the Atlantic 10 Conference in a vote conducted by the league's head coaches Wednesday.

The Spiders return six starters and 20 letterwinners from last year's 13-5-3 squad. The 2011 season boasted the most Richmond wins since 2002 and a return trip to the A-10 Tournament.

Richmond returns the talents of five All-Conference players, including the reigning Player of the Year in Becca Wann. Although Wann will miss a month of the season as she plays for the U-20 National Team in Japan, she will return before conference play begins. Wann finished her stellar sophomore campaign scoring 15 goals, ranking 13th in the nation.

Wann recorded seven game-winning tallies, which ranked fourth in the country. Wann finished second in a single season in goals (15) and points (36). Her 10 career game-winning goals ranks second all-time.

The Spiders also return second team honorees in Natalie LeClair and Kristin Lescalleet and All-Rookie members Ashley Williams and Melissa Alvarez-Freeman.

Richmond finished second in the poll to defending A-10 champion, Dayton. Richmond opens its 2012 slate against No. 3 Wake Forest Fri. Aug. 17 at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
