RICHMOND, Va. - After helping the Richmond Spiders football team post its first shutout in over three years this past Saturday, redshirt senior DB Cooper Taylor was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week for the season on Monday, the conference office announced.
"Cooper is really enjoying an outstanding season for us," Richmond head coach Danny Rocco remarked. "I thought in the game this past Saturday, Cooper was extremely active and extremely disruptive. I really thought he had an exceptional evening."
Taylor was a presence not only in the passing game, but in the running game as well for the Spiders, totaling a team-best 13 tackles in the contest. Taylor also had 0.5 sacks, two quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and a pass breakup in the 39-0 shutout victory over Rhode Island.
On the season, the Buck Buchannan Award Watch List honoree has 63 tackles, three tackles for loss, three interceptions and two forced fumbles.
The No.22 Richmond Spiders will host the Delaware Blue Hens on Senior Day at Robins Stadium next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
