Two games for $1, selected concession items for $1, t-shirt and poster giveaways, retro uniforms worn by the men's team, autographs and a special halftime ceremony honoring one of the greatest moments in Richmond basketball history will tipoff the season-long celebration of 100 Years of Spider Basketball Friday at the Robins Center.
The women's team christens the season with a 4 p.m. game against Longwood. The men's team hosts Liberty at 7 p.m. All tickets for the doubleheader are just $1, with selected concession stand favorites also offered for only $1. Friday night's season opener is also a Kids Club game, with members receiving free admission.
In honor of 100 Years of Spider Basketball, the men's team will debut retro uniforms, to be worn at selected home games this season. The uniforms are virtually identical to those worn in the mid 1980's when Richmond was making its first NCAA appearances. The uniforms include the memorable barber shop pole red, white and blue piping down the sides. A retro-style 100 Years t-shirt and commemorative 100 Years poster will be given away to the first 2,500 fans.
At halftime of the men's game, a special ceremony will recognize the unprecedented support of Richmond Athletics from the Robins Family, while honoring E. Claiborne Robins, Jr., the visionary and driving force behind the Robins Center, which opened 40 years ago.
Following the action, the Spider men's team will be signing autographs for fans.
