SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior guard Cedrick Lindsay scored a career-high 25 points to help lead the University of Richmond past Bryant University in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational on Wednesday night, 76-71.
With the victory, Richmond improves its record to 19-14 on the season and advances to quarterfinals of the CBI to play Wright State on Monday at 7 p.m. in Dayton, Ohio. With the loss, Bryant’s season ends at 19-12.
Lindsay netted his career high of 25 points thanks to 8-of-12 shooting from the floor to go with four rebounds and four assists. The junior has scored at least 19 points in seven of the last 10 games and is averaging 17.5 points per game in the last 10 games.
Sophomore guard Kendall Anthony had 15 points off the bench for the Spiders, while senior Greg Robbins totaled 13 points and five boards. Senior Darien Brothers chipped in 10 points and his one three-pointer moved him into a tie for Jarod Stevenson for second on Richmond's single-season three-point list with 82 treys, three behind Rodney Rice for the school record.
For the game, the Spiders shot 50 percent (26-of-52) from the floor, including 9-of-21 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc. Led by Anthony, the Spider bench outscored Bryant’s, 23-12, and Richmond scored 15 points off 14 Bryant turnovers.
