Mike O'Toole began working with the Richmond Spiders Athletics Department in September 2010, as Coordinator of Facilities and Events, handling the day-to-day scheduling and operations of all athletic venues as well as overseeing all intercollegiate sporting events.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1976 from Clarion University of Pennsylvania when it was known as Clarion State College. He has also done graduate work in Sports Administration at Temple University, 1982 & ’83, which led to an internship with the Richmond Braves and his arrival in the Capital City.
O'Toole has spent nearly three decades working and living in the Richmond community. Prior to working for the Spiders, he was most recently Executive Director of Tuckahoe Sports. He also worked for the SMG managed Richmond Coliseum, both Richmond sports radio stations, ESPN 950 and Sports Radio 910, and was with the Richmond Braves Baseball Club for seven years during which The Diamond was built, opened, 1985, and the Triple-A Braves won two International League Championships, 1986 & 1989.
Interests outside of work are also sports related as he has also been involved as a volunteer, administrator, coach, and umpire with Tuckahoe Little League for 21 years. He has done extensive work as a Master of Ceremonies for the All-Metro football and basketball banquets, the Dudley/Lanier Award Banquet, and the Highland Springs Wall of Fame Banquet. As a member of the Touchdown Club of Richmond for 22 years, he was recently honored as the recipient of the club’s highest honor, the Bunkie Trinite Memorial Achievement Award awarded at the club’s All Metro Banquet in January, 2014. Also, in recognition of his 20 years of service to the Highland Springs High School Wall of Fame banquet, he was a recent inductee to the school’s Wall of Fame.
Originally from Tionesta, Pennsylvania, O'Toole is a life-long Steelers and Pirates fan. He and his wife Jane live in western Henrico County and have three sons. Their eldest, Joey, a graduate of Virginia Tech and currently Video Coordinator for Radford Women’s Basketball; Matt, a graduate of James Madison and first year student at the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond; and James, a freshman at Virginia Tech.
