UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- It was an Atlantic 10 Conference showdown at Pitt Field Friday afternoon between Richmond and Geroge Washington. Much like last season's meetings, Friday's game came down the wire, and unfortunately the Colonials took game one of the series, 4-2.
George Washington struck first off an RBI single, but the Spiders answered immediately in the home half.
Daniel Brumbaugh and Kurtis Brown drove in runs for the Spiders in the bottom of the first, putting Richmond in command of the board, 2-1. It wouldn't be until the third inning when the Colonials would push across its next run, evening the score at 2-2.
GW broke through in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead. The Spiders continued to battle but the Colonials' closer Eddie Muhl held them at bay before plating one more in the eighth to secure 4-2 win.
The series between Richmond and GW continues tomorrow at 1 p.m. The Spiders will also "Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer" to support the Go4theGoal Foundation to help kids battling cancer.
