UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Baseball team likes to keep things interesting. Saturday’s game with defending Atlantic 10 champions, Rhode Island, was no different.

The second game of the series was a battle from the first pitch, and it came down to the wire in walk-off fashion as Justin Cook singled up the middle to bring home Ross Abrash and give the Spiders a 7-6 victory over the Rams.

Rhode Island got out to an early lead off a three-run homer, but the Spiders evened the score in the home half of the first thanks to a double from Daniel Brumbaugh and RBIs from Kurtis Brown and Caleb Ward.

The score wouldn't remain tied very long as the Rams’ Chris Hess hit a two-run shot to put Rhody ahead, 5-3. Rhode Island maintained a lead into the sixth when the Spiders found a spark.

RJ Watters came off the bench for an infield single, driving home Brown, who led off the inning with a walk. Behind a clutch RBI single from D.J. Lee, both Kyle Schmidt and Cook crossed the dish giving Richmond its first lead, 6-5, of the day.

The Rams weren’t willing to go quietly as they got a run back to even the score at 6-6 in the seventh. With the score tied late in the game, it was all about who was going to break through first to win the game.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Kyle Adams drew a walk. Abrash, who came on to pinch run for Adams, stole his first collegiate base to put the Spiders in scoring position before Cook smoked the ball up the middle allowing Abrash to cross the plate and give Richmond the 7-6 win.

With the series even at one apiece, tomorrow’s rubber match is slated for 12PM.
