ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After a thrilling, nail-biting win yesterday, the University of Richmond dropped an 8-2 decision at the hands of Saint Louis in the series finale.

SLU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a double down the left field line in the bottom of the first. The Spiders looked to respond in the second with runners on the corners, but the Billikens got out of the jam inning with their lead in tact.

Richmond broke through in the third as RJ Watters' leadoff single and a pair of SLU miscues allowed him to reach third. Watters came home to cut the Billikens lead to one, 2-1, thanks to a fielder's choice.

The Billikens got a couple runners on in the bottom half of the inning, but Zach Grossfeld came on to pitch and registered a strikeout to end the inning and the threat. However, a two-run homer in the next inning would put them ahead 4-1.

In the fifth, SLU tacked on four runs capped by a solo homer to take an 8-1 advantage.

The Spiders looked for some more late inning magic in the seventh when Kyle Adams led off the inning with a double to the gap in right center. St. Louis native Jake Wood singled through the left side, to put runners on the corners for Richmond, but a double play ended the inning.

Thanks to an RBI single from Kurtis Brown, the Spiders added a run in the eighth as Vinny Capra crossed the plate, as the Spiders chipped away at SLU's lead making it 8-2. The Billikens held off any Richmond rally to preserve their victory in the series finale.

Richmond is set to return to action on Tuesday to take on in-state foe and perennial power No. 13 Virginia in Charlottesville. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
