UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Kristen McCarthy nailed a last-second shot to lift Temple over Richmond, 56-55, Saturday night at the Robins Center.

McCarthy shot the jumper from the left corner with two tenths of a second left to snap the Spiders' six-game win streak. Temple improved to 7-7, 1-0, while Richmond fell to 12-3, 0-1 overall.

Richmond led for much of the game and pushed its advantage to a game-high 14 point edge with five minutes left in the first half. From there, Temple pieced together a 7-2 run to slash the deficit to 30-22 going into break.

A Yazmean Burgess layup looked to put the Spiders in cruise control at 40-28 at the 14:47 mark, but Temple responded with 13 unanswered points to take the lead at 41-40 with 9:39 left.

From there, Richmond reclaimed the edge and even pushed its advantage to 55-47 with 3:58 left on a jumper by Genevieve Okoro, but that jumper proved to be Richmond's final points of the game.

Okoro's jumper narrowly missed with 14 seconds left and a Brittany Lewis rebound gave Temple the last-second shot attempt. Shey Peddy then dished to McCarthy for the game-winner.  The Owls finished the contest scoring the game's last nine points.

It was Richmond's second one-point game this season. The Spiders clipped cross-town rival VCU 78-77 Dec. 1.

Richmond was led by Abby Oliver's 21 points. Rachael Bilney followed with 13 points, while Okoro added eight points and eight boards.  Becca Wann corralled seven rebounds and had four assists.

McCarthy led Temple with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

The Spiders return to A-10 action Wednesday night as they host their home-and-home rival GW at 7 p.m. in the Robins Center. Richmond will be vying for its seventh-straight win in the rivalry.
