CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Spider women's distance medley relay squad put together a top finish to highlight Richmond Track & Field's first day of action on Friday at UNC's Dick Taylor Invitational.
Highlighting the day for the Spiders were sophomores Alyson McGonigle (Chester Springs, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Alli Mannon (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and freshmen Taylor Clevinger (Mechanicsville, Va./St. Catherine's School) and Amber Young (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange), who combined to turn in a top time of 12:15.83 in the DMR. Their time was nearly six seconds ahead of the second-place squad fielded by the College of Charleston.
After turning in an eighth-place showing in the 60 Meter prelims, freshman Taylor Parson (Severn, Md./Old Mill) returned to the track to take seventh in finals with a time of 7.89.
Also opening their collegiate careers with strong starts were Deborah Fajuyigbe (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and Alexis Williams (Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run) in the 600 Meters. Fajuyibe clocked a 1:45.58 while Williams won her heat with a time of 1:46.38.
Saturday's second and final day of action at the Tar Heels' Eddie Smith Field House begins at 10 a.m. with the women's high jump. The women's 400 Meters kicks off the day's running events at Noon.
