UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond head football coach Danny Rocco announced the signing of 15 student-athletes on Wednesday. The student-athletes submitted National Letters of Intent to play for the Spiders beginning in the 2012 season. The 15-member signing class includes eight offensive and seven defensive recruits.
"We're really excited about the group in its entirety. We went out and really addressed some of the needs that we had here and I truly see this as the beginning of a new era of Richmond football," UR head football coach Danny Rocco remarked. "I feel that we have an awful lot to sell here just three years removed from a national championship, we're posting a 92 percent graduation rate and we have collected a group of student-athletes here who have really bought in to the ideal of academic and athletic excellence."
The recruiting class will join a talented, veteran Spider team in 2012, as Richmond returns 23 players who gained starting experience last season. The class includes four student-athletes from North Carolina, three from Virginia, three from Georgia, two from Florida, and one each from Maryland, Tennessee, and Washington D.C.
Head coach Danny Rocco will discuss his first Richmond football recruiting class at the Jepson Alumni Center on campus from 5:30-6:30 p.m., concluding in time for fans to make their way across campus to the Robins Center for the men's basketball game versus Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m.
Coach Rocco will be joined by members of his staff and video highlights of the 2012 recruiting class will be shown. The event, which includes light refreshments, is free and open to the public and media. No RSVP is required.
Coach Rocco will meet with the media at 4 p.m. Live audio of the press conference will be available at RichmondSpiders.com. Coach Rocco will also appear on ESPN 950's afternoon show, "Hardly Workin" with host Greg Burton broadcasting live from 3-6 p.m. from the Robins Center.
