UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond Track & Field will be represented at the heralded Penn Relays this week when senior Meaghan McGovern looks to recapture the crown in the hammer throw on Thursday morning in Philadelphia.

INSIDE THE PENN RELAYS
The University of Pennsylvania's Penn Relays is the world's largest and oldest relay carnival. Its 118th running will be held this Thursday through Saturday at the Quakers' Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

The lone Spider set to compete in Philly this week, McGovern will take part in the College division of the women's hammer throw competition, which is scheduled to begin on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. A complete schedule of events can be found here.

Live video will be provided throughout all three days of this year's Penn Relays, with those interested in viewing having the option of purchasing several different packages, including a Thursday daylong pass. Live results will also be made available here.

LAST TIME OUT
McGovern advanced to finals in the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 55.96 meters at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday and would go on to finish sixth overall in a strong field of 29 student-athletes. Her throw currently ranks first in the Atlantic 10 Conference by more than five meters and 33rd overall in the NCAA East Region -- no other A-10 women's hammer thrower ranks in the top-100. Additionally, each of the senior standout's hurls surpassed the 55-meter mark, with her PR less than one-half meter off Beth Crocus' school record of 56.42 set in 2006.

LAST YEAR'S RELAYS
McGovern prevailed as the champion in the College division at the 2011 Penn Relays. Her winning toss was recorded at a distance of 54.81 meters, edging Navy's Amanda Phelps (54.42 meters) for the top spot. McGovern's winning hurl came in the fifth round of finals.
