Team Notes

  • With the win, Richmond claimed its 500th victory in school history. The Spiders are 500-616-53 in 129 seasons of football.
  • Saturday's game was delayed 1 hour, 23 minutes due to severe storms in the area and marked the first delayed game in the three-year history of Robins Stadium.
  • Due to the weather, the game also represented the latest start (7:23 kickoff) in Robins Stadium history.
  • Richmond has now won seven straight home-openers.
  • The Spiders are 3-0 in night games at Robins Stadium.
  • Head coach Danny Rocco is 5-1 all-time against Gardner-Webb. After dropping his first game against GWU as head coach of Liberty, he has now won five straight against the Runnin' Bulldogs.
  • Richmond's win is Rocco's first as head coach of the Spiders.
  • Saturday's contest marked the first-ever meeting between Richmond and Gardner-Webb.
  • Tonight's game marked the 10th sell-out in Robins Stadium history after the Spiders sold out all five home games in 2011.
  • The last time Richmond scored more than 40 points was in a home loss to New Hampshire this past season (9/24/11).

Player Notes

  • With his four touchdowns, senior RB Kendall Gaskins now has 27 career touchdowns to put him in sole possession of fourth place in the program annals.
  • Gaskins' four scores are also a career single-game high, tying him for fifth all-time at Richmond.
  • His second-quarter TD reception represented the third of his career and his second in as many games. His 36 receiving yards are also a new career single-game high.
  • Redshirt junior RB Jovan Smith established a new career-long with his 54-yard second-quarter carry.
  • Redshirt senior QB John Laub made his fifth career start and is now 3-2 in those games.
  • Laub threw two touchdown passes, setting a new career single-game high and a career-best 267 passing yards.
  • Sophomore Remington Hinshaw posted a new career-high 11 points (2 FGs, 5 PATs).
  • Hinshaw made a career-best two field goals on Saturday, including a career-long 37-yarder.
  • Junior WR Ben Edwards had a career-long rush of 20 yards in the second quarter.
  • Edwards also caught one touchdown pass, tying his career-high.
  • Redshirt junior TE Sam Roller had a career-long 15-yard reception in the second quarter to go with a career-high 28 receiving yards.
  • Redshirt junior DT Kerry Wynn forced a fumble in both the third and fourth quarters, giving him three total in his career.
  • Redshirt sophomore DB Reggie Barnette recorded his first interception of the year and the second of his career.
  • Freshman RB Jacobi Green carried the ball nine times for 29 yards, setting career highs in both attempts and rushing yards.
  • Sophomore WR Rashad Ponder finished with three receptions for 22 yards to set career-highs in both receptions and receiving yards.
  • Redshirt sophomore QB Michael Strauss had eight pass attempts to tie his career-high.
  • Redshirt sophomore DL Evan Kelly recorded a new career-high eight tackles and also recovered his first-ever fumble.
  • Redshirt sophomore DB DeShawn Holmes and redshirt freshman FB Seth Fisher also recovered their first-ever fumbles on Saturday.
  • Redshirt junior LB Cole Gonet tallied four tackles to establish a a new career-high.
