Spider Menís Golf Starts Season at Marshall Invite

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The University of Richmond Spider men's golf team started the 2012-13 season at the Marshall Invitational on Monday, coming in 13th place after two rounds of action.  The Spiders carded a team total of 588 (+20) through the first 36 holes, while Virginia Tech leads the 16-team tournament with a score of 548 (-20).

Leading the way for the Spiders on the first day of action was senior Nick Austin, who tied for 31st with a two-round total of 146 (+4).  Austin, a two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection, carded rounds of 75-71 on the first day of the season.

Sophomore Colin McDade had a solid showing for Richmond, tying for 42nd place with a 36-hole total of 147 (+5).  Just one stroke back, junior Jack Wilkes will head in to Tuesday's final round tied for 50th with a score of 148 (+6).

Making his collegiate debut, freshman David Germann played well for the Spiders, tying for 59th after the first day with a 150 (+8).  Rounding out Richmond's effort was sophomore Austin Romeo, who shot a 151 (+9).
