DAVIDSON, N.C. - After a strong defensive effort throughout the match, the Richmond men's soccer team allowed a late goal in a 1-0 setback to Appalachian State in its Davidson adidas Classic finale on Monday.

After more than 89 minutes of scoreless play that came as a result of junior Michael Forsyth (Cary, N.C./Apex) and a stalwart Spider backline, App State's Kristian Lee-Him took a far-side cross from Sekani Sinclair and slipped the ball past Spider goalkeeper Chris Grover (Memphis, Tenn./Sewanee) for the golden goal with just 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Spiders (1-4-0) could not convert a score in the waning seconds as the Mountaineers (3-1-1) escaped with the 1-0 win.

Freshmen Mitch Reavis (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Mannaan Umar (Herndon, Va./Chantilly) led Richmond with a shot on goal apiece, with five other Spiders recording strikes on the night.

Grover saw his first action in net for the Spiders this fall, finishing with three saves after answering the call in the second half. Freshman Thomas Hand (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) tallied two stops in his fifth-consecutive start. Paul West posted a pair of saves for App State.

The Mountaineers tripled Richmond's shot count, 21-7, and held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Forsyth and Reavis were again rewarded for their solid starts to the season, as both were named to the all-tournament team after each also received all-tournament selections at  Virginia Tech's Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Invitational two weeks ago.

Richmond returns to the pitch on Saturday when it heads north to Annapolis, Md., to take on Navy. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Midshipmen's Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
