ANNAPOLIS, Md. -The Richmond men's soccer team was shut out 5-0 by Navy on Saturday at the Midshipmen's Glenn Warner Soccer Facility in Annapolis, Md.
Nick Dubee scored in the sixth minute to put the Mids on top 1-0 and they would not stop there as Martin Sanchez, Alex Wilson, Grant Valenstein, and Sean Gallagher each netted a goal for the Mids in the first half. The Spider defense held Navy scoreless in the second half but couldn't capitalize offensively.
Senior midfielder Houston Oldham (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy), freshman midfielder Mitch Reavis (Clarendon Hills,Ill./Hinsdale Central), freshman forward Mannaan Umar (Herndon, Va./Chantilly), and freshman forward Joel Teah (Monrovia, Liberia/ Greensboro Day School) were able to get past the Navy defenders and each netted one shot on the night.
Senior goalie Chris Grover (Memphis, Tenn./ St. George's) secured three saves over a full night in the net for the Spiders, while Navy's Gavin Ward helped secure the victory with two saves.
Navy's offense dominated the Spider's up and down the field holding a 22-4 advantage in shots on the night. The Midshipmen also held a 9-4 edge in corner kicks.
Richmond returns home to Robins Stadium for a two game homestretch against two instate rivals starting on Tuesday Sept, 18 when the squad takes on Longwood followed by a visit from the VMI Keydets on Friday Sept, 21.
