Cross Country Runs Well at Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The University of Richmond Spiders men's and women's cross country teams ran well at the Charlotte Invitational on Friday afternoon, with the women's team placing third out of 33 teams in the 6k Gold race and the men placing seventh out of 35 teams in the 8k Gold race.  The Richmond women's team also placed third of 14 teams in the 6k Green race.

The Spider women's strong showing in the Gold race was headlined by junior Jill Prentice who placed 13th in a time of 21:56.  After leading Richmond at the W&M Invite, senior Stephanie Paradis finished in 23rd place with a time of 22:25.  As a team, the Spiders totaled 146 points to place third, while Clemson won the race with 83 points.

In the 6k Green race, sophomore Clare Moretz led the Spiders, coming in second place with a time of 22:41.  Classmate Tenley Godfrey also earned a top-five finish, placing fourth in a time of 23:13.  Richmond totaled 64 points to finish third, while South Carolina won the Green race with 46 points.

Leading the way for the men's team in the Gold race was senior Chris York, who placed 13th overall with a time of 24:50.  Junior Ryan Lee continued his strong year, placing 24th in a time of 25:10.  The men's team totaled 197 points in the Gold race, with Virginia Tech winning the event with 31 points.

The Spider men's team also had three athletes run in the Green race, with sophomore Matthew Groff coming in fifth in a time of 25:53 to lead the trio.  Freshman Matthew Barudin placed 23rd (26:42) while junior Patrick Love finished right behind his teammate in 24th (26:47).

The Spider cross country teams will be back in action on October 13 when Richmond will travel to Fayetteville to participate in the Arkansas Chile Pepper Festival.
