WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Richmond won its third-straight with a 2-0 victory at GW Friday afternoon in each teams' conference opener.
"This was a strong performance against a much-improved GW team," said head coach Peter Albright. "Becca scored a world-class goal and Violet Miller had another great game at center midfielder. I'm happy we continued our winning ways."
The Spiders improved to 5-5-0, 1-0-0 while the Colonials felt o 4-5-1, 0-1-0. The Spiders have won three in a row and five of their last six games. Richmond is 3-0 since Becca Wann's return. It was Wann's fifth goal in three games.
Wann got the Spiders on the board first with a header into the goal off an Ashley Riefner pass in the game's 47th minute. Violet Miller added the insurance score with an unassisted goal at the 67:36 mark.
Richmond out shot GW 11-6 with Wann leading all Spiders with six shots. The Spiders won the corner kicks, 5-2, and Andrea Young had three saves in the net.
Richmond handed GW its first home loss of the season and improved to 2-3 on the road. Today's game marked Richmond's third-straight 2-0 victory.
The Spiders play at Charlotte Sunday at 1 p.m.
