Strong Second Half Gives Men's Soccer 3-2 Win

Bronx, N.Y.- A strong second half performance led the Spider's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over the Fordham Rams on Sunday in Bronx, N.Y.

The Spiders are now 6-9-0 on the season and 2-4-0 in the Atlantic 10. The Rams dropped to 5-5-3 overall and 1-2-2 in conference.

The first half of the game was a defensive battle with neither side able to net a goal.

The Rams Ollie Kelly struck within the first 58 seconds of play. Kelly launched the ball into the left side of the box on an assist from Andre Seidenthal.   Nick Butler headed the game-tying ball into the box off a Michael Forsyth free kick.   Christopher Hill headed a ball in over the goalie from a Timmy Albright thrown in to give the Spiders a 2-1 lead during the 71st minute of plan.   Oliver Murphy struck 8 minutes later on an assist from Mitch Reavis to earn an insurance goal.   The goal was Murphy's first career goal. Fordham's Taylor Gulbins cut to 3-2 on a header in the 83rd minute of play.  The Spider defense was able to hold of the Rams to secure the victory.

Mark Rankin and Houston Oldham led the Spider attack with 5 shots each but it was Butler, Hill, and Murphy who each netted a goal for the Spiders.  Justin Nagel led the Rams attack with two shots on the day.

Goalie Thomas Hand played a full day between the posts with two saves.  Sean Brailey earned four saves for the Rams during a full day in the net.

Richmond outshot Fordham 11 to 6 on the day.  The Rams took five corners while the Spiders had none.

The Spiders return home to face Dayton, Xavier, and Virginia Commonwealth in their final three games of the season.  The Spiders will faceoff against Dayton on Friday at 7:00 pm at Robins Stadium.
