Spider Women Third, Men Seventh At A-10's

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Richmond women's cross country team placed third, while the Spider men's team finished seventh at the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday morning.  The women's team finished with 125 points, while the men's squad finished with 206.

After winning the individual title last season, junior Jill Prentice finished third in a time of 17:42.2 to lead the Richmond women, while sophomore Andrew Valenski earned his second-straight top-25 finish at the conference championship, placing ninth in a time of 26:04.3 to pace the Spider men.  Both runners were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team.

Atlantic 10 newcomer Butler swept both the men's and the women's titles at the A-10 Championships, which were held at the Belmont Plateau at Fairmont Park in Philadelphia.

Behind Prentice, sophomore Clare Moretz tallied her second top-25 finish at the conference meet, placing 21st in a time of 18:35.5.  Senior Stephanie Paradis had a solid showing in her final A-10 Championship, coming in 31st with a time of 18:50.7. 

Finishing just behind Paradis was freshman Tara Hanley, who finished in 32nd in 18:50.8.  Rounding out the top-five finishers for the Spiders was junior Roxanne Henningson, who crossed the finish line in 38th with a time of 18:55.4.

While Valenski led Richmond on Saturday morning, junior Ryan Lee also ran well for the Spiders, coming in 36th in a time of 26:41.3.  Junior Adam Owens also finished in the top-50, placing 43rd with a time of 26:43.5.

Freshman Jordan Chavez finished 61st with a time of 27:06.8, while senior Conor Phelan crossed in a time of 27:18.7, placing 68th overall.

Both Spider squads will now set their sites on the Southeast Regional in Charlotte on Saturday, November 9. The Southeast Regional meet is the Spider runners' one opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championships on Saturday, November 17.
