UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond downed Xavier, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati, Ohio in its final game of the 2012 season.

"We played good soccer this weekend," said head coach Peter Albright. "The conditions were tough at Dayton, but we played well. We played tough against Xavier Sunday. Erin Layne had a great goal."

The Spiders finished their season at 8-9-1, 4-4-1, while Xavier finished at 6-12-1, 1-8-0. Richmond concluded its conference slate 4-4-1 with 13 points, but because of tiebreaker procedures, did not secure the final spot in the Atlantic 10 Tournament to be played next weekend on the campus of Rhode Island.

The game's only goal came in the 25th minute, as Erin Layne headed a ball into the open net off an assist from Becca Wann.

The Spiders outshot the Musketeers, 19-11, and Andrea Young had five saves in the net. Young finished her stellar senior campaign with 90 saves and seven shutouts. Young posted 241 saves and 18 shutouts in her career as a Spider.

Wann led all Spiders this season with 15 points. (7g, 1a).
