RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond Spiders men's basketball team fell on a buzzer-beater to George Mason in the Governor's Holiday Hoops Classic on Saturday afternoon at the Richmond Coliseum, 67-64. With the loss, Richmond's record falls to 9-4 while Mason improves to 7-4.

Senior Darien Brothers led the Spiders with 20 points, while junior Derrick Williams chipped in 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Richmond used its long-range shooting ability to take a 41-32 lead in to the halftime break against George Mason.  Led by Brothers, who was a perfect 5-of-5 from deep, the Spiders shot 8-11 from 3FG in the first 20 minutes.

While Brothers led all scorers at the break with 15 points, Williams joined him in double-figures, adding 11 on 3-of-4 shooting from the field.  As a team, the Spiders shot 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from the field and a blistering 72.7 percent from beyond the arc.

In the second half, Mason was able to cut in to the Richmond lead, taking a two-point advantage with 53 seconds left.  On Richmond's ensuing possession, junior Cedrick Lindsay skied for an offensive rebound and then drove to the lane, tying the game with a lay-up, 64-64, with 19 seconds left.

George Mason was able to win it, however, on its next possession as Sherrod Wright hit a contested 3-pointer as time ran out to give Mason the 67-64 victory.

The Richmond Spiders will be back in action on Saturday, December 29 when the team will play host to the Davidson Wildcats.  Tip-off at the Robins Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.
