NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.- The Spider swim team defeated Central Connecticut State University 209-88 but lost to Rutgers 164-135 on Friday.
“We had different expectations for today,” said head coach Matt Barany. “We weren’t has focused as we could have been. I hope that changes tomorrow.”
The Spiders earned five first place finishes including a decisive win in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.31) over Rutgers relay.
Freshman Kelley Yang earned first place and posted a personal best time and current top A-10 time in the 100 fly (55.47). Her previous time in the event was 56.03. She finished second in the 200 fly finishing in a personal best time of 2:03.71.
“Kelley had a great meet,” said Barany. “She went two best times with plenty of room for improvement.”
Junior Mali Kobelja won the 100 free (52.00) and the 100 breast (1:05.56). Kobelja participated in the 400 freestyle relay and 200 freestyle relay, helping lead the relays to first place and second place respectively.
Senior Lauren Hines took first in the 50 free (24.35), second in the 100 back (56.42) third in the 200 back (2:06.72), and led off the 200-medley relay that finished third overall.
Senior Mina Vucic finished in the top-three in both of her freestyle events. Vucic took second in the 100 free (52.92) and third in the 50 free (24.66) .
The Spiders get back into the pool tomorrow for an A-10 showdown against Fordham and La Salle at Fordham. The meet starts at 1 p.m. Watch the meet live here.
