UNIVERISTY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond men's basketball team used a last-minute comeback to force overtime and storm past No. 16 ranked VCU at a sold-out Robins Center, 86-74.

Richmond won for the second time in the last three meetings with city-rival VCU in the two school's first Atlantic 10 match-up.

The Spiders have now won four of the last five against ranked teams in the Robins Center and eight of the last 13 games against ranked teams under head coach Chris Mooney.

Richmond led for most of the night, but VCU took its largest lead of the game at 59-56 with 3:59 left and exteneded that lead to seven with 42 seconds remaining.

Cedrick Lindsay made two free throws with 38 seconds left to cut the lead to five. After two VCU free throws, Lindsay made a jumper to trim the deficit back to five, and after the Rams made 1-of-2 free throws, Kendall Anthony was fouled on a three-pointer and made all three to cut the gap to three with 21 seconds left.

VCU again made 1-of-2 free throw and Anthony came down and buried a three-pointer to bring the Spiders within one (67-66) with 15 seconds left. VCU made both free throws to put the lead back to three with 12 seconds left, but Brothers buried a 28-foot three-pointer with 1.5 seconds left to send the Robins Center into hysterics and the game into overtime.

In overtime it was all Richmond as Anthony scored nine of game-high 26 points in the extra session.

Brothers scored 18 points, making four three-pointers. Lindsay scored 13 points and freshman Deion Taylor scored in double-figures for the second-straight game with 10 points.

With the victory, Richmond improved to 13-7 overall on the season and to 3-2 in Atlantic 10 conference play, while VCU fell to 16-4 on the year and 4-1 in A-10 action with the loss.

Richmond heads to UMass for a 2 p.m. tip Sunday.
