Women's Tennis Advance to Finals

Charlottesville, Va.-- The No. 3 seeded Spiders downed second-seeded Charlotte, 4-1, to advance to theAtlantic 10 Championship Finals.

The Spiders seek their fourth-straight Atlantic 10 title Sunday at 10 am against No. 1 seeded University of Massachusetts. Richmond has won eight of the last nine Atlantic 10 Championships.

 In doubles play, Joanna Matuszczyk and Nil Horoz defeated their oppenents, 8-5.

In singles action, Freshman Melissa Kandinata tied the match for the Spiders in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. Senior Helen Cunningham put Richmond in the lead with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Elizabeth Sims fought hard to defeat Lisa Grosselius at the No. 4 singles position, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. Senior Joanna Matuszczyk converted match point to clinch the victory for the Spiders with her 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 over Alexandra Zinn.
