CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Richmond plays No. 7 North Carolina Friday at 1 p.m. in the 2012 NCAA Tennis Championships.

The Spiders are making their fourth-straight and 11th overall NCAA appearance after securing its ninth A-10 title last month.  The Spiders boast the two best players in the conference in Most Outstanding Performer Joanna Matuszczyk and Most Outstanding Rookie in Melissa Kandinata.

Matuszczyk became the third Spider to garner Most Outstanding Performer honors, joining alums Pamela Duran (2009, 2007) and Lindsay Cox (2005), while Kandinata is the third Richmond's women's tennis student-athlete to secure top Rookie honors (Pamela Duran, 2006; Beatrice Grasu, 2004).

Joining Matuszczyk and Kandinata on the 12-person All-Conference first team was teammate Helen Cunningham. Elizabeth Sims, who garnered second team accolades. Sims was also tabbed to the All Academic team.

Richmond ended its regular season 10-4 overall and 3-1 in A-10 play. The Spiders were tabbed as this season's favorite to capture the league title as voted on by conference coaches in a preseason poll.

The winner of Friday's match will face the winner of the Arizona-Minnesota match in Saturday's second round.

Tickets for the event are $5 for all spectators. Gates will open one hour prior to play on both Friday and Saturday.
