UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Four Richmond Track & Field standouts in seniors Amanda Caporelli and Meaghan McGovern and sophomores Ryan Lee and Alli Mannon will be among the hundreds of collegians and post-collegians looking to improve their marks for this year's NCAA Championships or Olympic Trials when they head to Charlottesville for Saturday's Virginia Challenge.
The Cavaliers' one-day meet will held at Lannigan Field, with field events set to start at 3:30 p.m. and running events scheduled to begin shortly thereafter at 5 p.m. Live results will be made available and a recap will be posted following the conclusion of Saturday's competition. A complete schedule of events can be found here.
McGovern (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) enters Saturday's meet following her first-place and school-record finish in the hammer throw at last weekend's Atlantic 10 Championship. Her winning throw of 57.03 meters (187-1) capped a dominant day of competition for the senior, who wrapped up the morning with the top five overall throws and now ranks 26th overall in the NCAA East Region in the event.
Caporelli (Churchville, Va./Buffalo Gap) is coming off a 10th-place performance in the long jump at the conference championship. She will look to better her season-long of 5.51 meters (18-1) recorded in Amherst a week ago.
After crossing the line just outside the top-five in sixth at the A-10 Championship, Mannon (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) makes her way to Charlottesville looking to improve upon her season-best of 4:29.19 set at April's Mt. SAC Relays.
The lone runner representing Richmond's men's squad, Lee (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) enters the Virginia Classic following a fourth-place and season-best finish of 14:35.41 in the 5,000 Meters at the conference meet.
Free admission will be offered to all spectators at this weekend's Virginia Classic. Entrance to Lannigan Field is the renovated entrance plaza for the track and field facility, Davenport Field and Klöckner Stadium. Free public parking for the meet will be available in the University Hall, John Paul Jones Arena and McCue parking lots in addition to the Emmet/Ivy Garage.
Those Spiders qualifying for the NCAA East Region Championships will head to those preliminary rounds in Jacksonville, Fla., from May 24-26.
