CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Senior Meaghan McGovern's third-place performance highlighted Spider Track & Field's finishes at Saturday's Virginia Classic in Charlottesville.
After smashing the school record in the hammer throw at the Atlantic 10 Championship a week ago, McGovern (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) returned to the circle to take third with a hurl of 54.16 meters. She ranked 26th nationally in the event heading into the weekend with her program record of 57.03 meters.
Classmate Amanda Caporelli (Churchville, Va./Buffalo Gap) copped a top-10 showing of her own on Saturday, capping off her collegiate career with a seventh-place finish of 5.31 meters in the long jump.
A pair of sophomores were also in action for the Spiders at the Cavaliers' last-chance meet, as Ryan Lee (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) clocked a 14:48.52 in the 5,000 Meters and Alli Mannon (Litiz, Pa./Warwick) turned in a time of 4:35.46 in the 1,500 Meters.
Up next for those Spiders who qualify is the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla., from May 24-26.
