Becca Wann will provide a blog chronicling her week at the Under-20 US National Training Camp in Carson, Calif.
Hi Spider Fans!
Thursday was our second game against the U-23 National team. We won 3-1 this time, and many of the players who didn't get a chance to play on Tuesday got a chance to play, me included! I played the entire second half, which was an outstanding opportunity for me to finally feel the speed of play and tempo of this high level. My first shot ricocheted off the crossbar, and I had another good strike from the top of the 18-yard box. Surprisingly, I didn't have many chances at headers in the box, but I still enjoyed myself!
There was definitely a learning curve on the defensive side of the ball, and there were a couple of concepts I had to pick up in the run of play, but I was so grateful for the shot and I worked hard the whole 45 minutes. Since I got only played half of the game, I got the chance to play small-sided after the game was over again, and this time my team won in the finals. So overall, it was a great soccer day for me personally and as a team.
One of the girls on our team is missing her high school gradation on Saturday night to be here. So for dinner we had a party for her with graduation cups, bubbles, signs, and even a diploma. It was really cool to see the team pull together and create a memory for a teammate missing what is a big moment in her life. It speaks volumes of the group of girls I have been surrounded with this week.
It truly has been an incredible experience up the this point, and it's hard to believe it's almost over. We still have a huge game against New Zealand on Saturday afternoon, and we will all be focused and ready to go for our final game day of the week!
