UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Heading in to the 2012 season, many believe that University of Richmond Spider football's Kendall Gaskins is due for a big year. Add The Sports Network (TSN) to that list, as the senior fullback was named a Second-Team Preseason All-American honors on Monday.
Accolades are nothing new for Gaskins. The Burlington, N.J. product was a TSN Third-Team All-America and First-Team All-CAA selection in 2010 and a third-team all-conference honoree in 2009 as a freshman.
Last season, Gaskins appeared in all 11 games for the Spiders, making nine starts at fullback. On the year, Gaskins rushed for 650 yards and 10 touchdowns. His best game of the season came against New Hampshire, when Gaskins scored a career-high three touchdowns while rushing for 81 yards on 16 carries.
Heading in to the 2012 season, Gaskins ranks sixth all-time in Spider football history on the career rushing touchdowns list with 21. In his first three years, Gaskins has totaled 1,145 yards rushing while also catching 25 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown.
