David Walsh joined the Richmond athletic staff in 2000 and was promoted to Deputy Athletic Director in the fall of 2005.

In his current role, Walsh oversees facilities, events, marketing, public relations, and ticket office and is the administrative liaison with men's basketball and football.  During his time as sport administrator for football and men's basketball, the Spiders reached unprecedented success.  The football program made the FCS Playoffs in 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009 and won a FCS football National Championship in 2008.  Men's basketball has made five postseason appearances and finished 2010 and 2011 ranked in the top 25 in the nation.   In 2011, the men's basketball team won the Atlantic 10 Championship and reached the Sweet 16. 

Walsh worked hand-in-hand with Athletic Director Jim Miller in the hiring of football coaches Dave Clawson, Mike London, Latrell Scott, and Danny Rocco, men's basketball coach Chris Mooney and women's basketball coaches Joanne Boyle and Michael Shafer.

Walsh was the athletics department's lead athletic administrator in the design and development of Robins Stadium which opened to rave reviews in 2010.  Additionally, Walsh is the point-person for the development of the 2012 master plan for Robins Center renovations.

Prior to his current role, Walsh managed the Spiders' olympic sport programs and hired 13 new head coaches in his tenure.  The head coaches hired by Walsh have combined to win 24 Atlantic 10 Championships. Baseball, women's soccer, field hockey, women's lacrosse and women's swimming were nationally ranked during Walsh's tenure.

Walsh came to Richmond from North Carolina State, where he spent six years with the Wolfpack. In his most recent position at N.C. State, he was Assistant Director of Athletics/Compliance. He spent one year as the Marketing Services Supervisor with the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation and two years as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Services at Jacksonville University before his appointment at N.C. State.  Walsh also worked one year at the University of Miami (Florida).

Walsh earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1990 and his master's degree from St. Thomas University in sport administration in 1991.  

He and his wife Margie reside in Midlothian with their daughter Tatum.
