BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Spiders surrendered two first-half goals and fell to No. 22 Virginia Tech, 2-0, Sunday afternoon in Blacksburg.
Virginia Tech's first tally came by the foot of Anne Lumpkin off a Shannon Mayrose cross pass four minutes into the game. Two minutes later, Helen Butler connected off a header from a corner kick for the game's second score.
Richmond's defense held Virginia Tech scoreless the rest of the way and outshot the Hokies, 4-3, in the second frame. Natalie LeClair led Richmond with three shots, while Dana Bernetich, Ashley Riefner and Jessica Abrams all had one shot apiece.
Andrea Young had four saves in goal.
The Spiders return to action Friday, Aug. 24 at Longwood. First kick is slated for 7 p.m.
