UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 13, 2012) - The University of Richmond men's soccer team heads north this Saturday when it visits Navy for a 7 p.m. matchup at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility in Annapolis, Md. After defeating then-No. 18 James Madison to open the season, the Spiders will look to snap their four-match losing streak.

LAST TIME OUT

The Spiders dropped a pair of decisions on the road at the Davidson adidas Classic last weekend.  The Spiders fell to Davidson, 2-1, despite sophomore defender Shane Powell's (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum School) late goal. The goal was Powell's first career goal as a Spider. Monday's game against Appalachian State came down to the final seconds when App State's Kristian Lee scored the game-winning goal with 30 seconds remaining to give the Mountaineers the 1-0 win. Sophomore Thomas Hand (Moorestown, N.J./ Moorestown) and senior Chris Grover (Memphis, Tenn./St. Georges) secured a combined five saves in the net for Richmond in the loss.

SCOUTING THE MIDSHIPMEN

After drawing Delaware, 1-1, in double overtime on Wednesday, the Midshipmen are looking for a win to improve their record heading into conference play. The Midshipmen have been shut out by both No. 13 Old Dominion and High Point, with their lone win coming in a 2-0 blanking of Robert Morris.

The Midshipmen return eight starters from last year's team that reached the program's first-ever Patriot League Tournament since 2001 and finished fourth in the league. The team is led offensively by senior forward David Jackson, junior forward Alex Wilson and sophomore midfielder Grant Valenstein, each having earned one goal on the season. Navy leads the Patriot League in shots per game, averaging 15 per contest. Sophomore Joseph Greenspan leads the Mids with a league-high 16 on the season and paces the league with 5.33 shots per game. Junior goalkeeper Gavin Snyder earned three saves against Delaware and owns a total of 11 on the season.

Saturday's match will mark the second meeting between the two squads in two seasons.

The Spiders and the Midshipmen met on Sept. 21, 2011, in Richmond, with Navy prevailing in a 2-1 victory.
