RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond Spiders redshirt senior DB Cooper Taylor was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The honor is the first in the career for Taylor.
"We're really excited to have Cooper back in the lineup," Spiders head coach Danny Rocco remarked. "Cooper really bolsters our lineup not just with his play, but also with his tremendous leadership."
Taylor was all over the field against VMI this past Saturday, snatching a pair of interceptions while making five tackles in the Spiders' 47-6 road win. The biggest play made by the Atlanta native occurred when Taylor took his second interception of the game back 35 yards for his first career touchdown.
Taylor's standout performance was just one of many on the Richmond defense against VMI, as the unit forced three turnovers and allowed the Keydets to rack up just 197 yards of total offense.
On the season, Taylor has played in two games, totaling nine tackles two interceptions, one tackle for loss and one pass breakup.
