UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va.- The University of Richmond men's soccer team is hoping to build momentum with a win against the VMI Keydets on Friday at 7 p.m. at Robins Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT
The Spiders defeated the Longwood Lancers 3-2 on Tuesday. Senior midfielder Houston Oldham (Nashville, Tenn./ Montgomery Bell Academy) scored both the squad's goals. The two goals were his first on the season. While senior goal keeper Chris Grover (Memphis, Tenn./ St. George's) recorded six saves on the night during a full night in the net.
SCOUTING THE KEYDETS
VMI (1-4-0, 0-1-0 Big South) fell to Longwood last weekend 3-2 in their conference opener. The Keydets took an early 1-0 lead in the second half before giving up two goals to Longwood. Sophomore Blake McCauley tied up the game but Longwood netted the winning goal with seven minutes remaining in the game.
Senior forward Kyle Farmer leads the team with team high six shots, one goal, and two assists on the season. In the net the Keydets have split action between freshman Alex Guerra, senior Taylor Feuerstein, and junior Daniel Kitchen with Daniel Kitchen seeing the most minutes of play. Kitchen averages 3.60 saves per game and has recorded five saves this season.
Friday's match will mark the 12th match between the Spiders and the Keydets. The two teams first met during the Spider's inaugural season in 1975. The Spiders own the series 8-3-1. The last time the two teams faced off was on September 27, 2005 resulting in a 1-1 tie.
