Cross Country Heads to Charlotte Invitational on Friday

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond men's and women's Spider cross country teams will head south to North Carolina on Friday for the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Friday's Meet Details
The Charlotte Invitational will get started at 3:30 p.m. on Friday with the women's 6k Championship Gold "A" race, followed by the men's 8k Championship Gold "A" race at 4:15 p.m.  The respective "B" races will follow, with the women's 6k race at 4:50 p.m. and the men's 8k race at 5:20 p.m.

In total, 42 men's teams and 44 women's teams will be participating in the Charlotte Invitational, held at McApline Park.

Last Time Out
On September 15, both cross country teams ran well at the William & Mary Invitational, with the Spider women taking second place and the men finishing third.

On the women's side, Stephanie Paradis led a field of four consecutive Spiders to cross the line with her sixth-place finish of 18:37. Newcomers Kelly Bailey and Tara Hanley each crossed in 18:40 to take 7th and 8th, respectively, while junior Roxanne Henningson finished right behind in 18:41 to nab the ninth spot.

For the men, junior Ryan Lee canvassed the course in 25:42 to take sixth and pace the Spiders for the second-straight outing. Senior Chris York clocked a 25:44 to trail closely behind in ninth, with sophomore Andrew Valenski rounding out the top 10 with a time of 25:52.

Richmond in the Regional Rankings
Both Spider cross country squads were given nods in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional rankings released on Monday. Richmond is seeded 11th in the men's Southeast Region rankings, while the women's team is ranked 12th.
