WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The women's tennis team continued play during day two of the Wake Forest Invitational.
Sophomore Melissa Kandinata moved passed Charlotte's Anna Ekelund 7-5, 6-2 in the consolation Kandinata took Stetson's Andrea Crespo to three sets in the group A singles but lost 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 in the semifinals.
In group B singles both junior Elizabeth Sims and freshman Emily Gitman advancef to the fifth place bracket. In the fifth place bracket Gitman fell to West Virginia's Ikttesh Chahal 6-1, 7-6
Freshman Katya Salas went 2-1 with a win against Louisville's Stefanie Villajuan 6-4,6-2 in the singles group C fifth place bracket.
Senior Mariana Arana went 2-1 in the group E single's consolation bracket. Arana took Charlotte's Emmanuelle Briant to three sets but defeated her 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 but then lost to Navy's Noelle Kaufman 7-5, 6-1. Teammates senior Ripley Hartmeyer and freshman Ana Abadias also went 2-1 on the weekend. Hartmeyer defeated Charlotte's Ginny Johnson 6-3, 6-0 but losing to Navy's Sam Droop 6-1, 6-7, 1-0. Abadias took the match against Elon's Barbara Lazarova 7-5, 6-3 but lost to Appalachian State's Jennifer Anasari 7-5, 7-6.
Sophomore Georgina Pons-Cano went 1-2 in the tournament in singles play, falling to UNC-Greensboro's Jamie Grinberg 6-3, 6-2 and Navy's Dye Das 6-4, 6-2.
In double's Mariana Arana and Ripley Hartmeyer earned third place in group D doubles with an 8-2 victory over Charlotte's Johnson/Perez. The duo went 2-1 on the weekend
Melissa Kandinata and Katya Salas won against Campbell's Ortiz and Stanic 8-6 in the group A double's 13th place bracket.
Elizabeth Sims and Emily Gitman lost to Winthrop's Cridland/ Gunaysu in the group B fifth place bracket. The duo was 1-2 in the tournament.
Ana Abadias and Nil Horoz will take on UNC-Greensboro's Anane/Yurtkuran on Sunday in the group C doubles fifth place bracket.
The team finsihes up play on Sunday Oct. 7 at Wake Forest
