Offensive Line Leading the Country
The Richmond Spiders are leading the nation heading into
this weekend, having allowed just one sack all year. The Spiders are tied with The Citadel atop
the category, having given up just one sack against then No.4-ranked Old
Dominion on September 29.
Ball-Hawking Defense
Coming into Saturday's game against New Hampshire, the
Richmond Spiders have totaled 11 interceptions in just six contests - tied for
the CAA lead with the aforementioned Wildcats.
DB Cooper Taylor is tied for the conference lead with three, while DB's
Darryl Hamilton and Doug Howell each have two.
On This Date in Spider Football History
On October 13, 1917, the Richmond Spiders opened the season
with a 28-0 victory over William & Mary in the 25th meeting between the two
institutions. The Tribe and Spiders will
meet later this season in what will be the 122nd game in the "South's oldest
football rivalry".
Gaskins Continues
Climb
With his 1-yard touchdown run against Villanova on October
6, senior FB Kendall Gaskins scored his sixth TD of the season and the 28th of
his illustrious career. Gaskins now
ranks fourth on the Spiders' all-time scoring list, just one behind Uly
Scott. Tim Hightower is the school
record-holder with 39.
Spiders Snap Streak at Villanova
With their
hard-fought, 28-17 victory at Villanova on October 6, the Richmond Spiders
captured their first road win in the series since the 2000 season. The win also snapped an overall three-game
losing streak to the Wildcats.
Hamilton Comes Up Huge
With the Spiders
holding a late lead at Villanova in the fourth quarter, redshirt senior DB
Darryl Hamilton stopped two late Wildcat drives with his first two
interceptions of the season. Hamilton
also totaled four tackles in the Spider victory.
Stephen Barnette Posts First 100-Yard Game
In the Spiders'
28-17 win over Villanova on October 6, WR Stephen Barnette reeled in five
catches for a career-best 110 yards, including a 19-yard touchdown. The 100-yard receiving game was the first for
Barnette in his career.
