NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Richmond junior Mali Kobelja was named Atlantic 10 Women's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week after winning two individual events and being a part of two first-place relay teams in the Spiders' season opening meet last weekend.
The Fort Wayne, Ind. native, who was the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championship Most Outstanding Performer and 2012 A-10 Female Student-Athlete of the Year, won the 200 individual medley in 2:03.22, the 200 breaststroke in 2:20.75 and finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.63).
Kobelja joined up with teammates Kelley Yang, Mina Vucic and Laura Jordan to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:36.84 and teamed with Lauren Hines, Natalya Ares and Yang to win the 200 medley relay in 1:46.59.
This is the fourth Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week award for Kobelja.
Richmond defeated UNC-Wilmington 115.5-47.5 and edged by Old Dominion 82-81 in its season-opening meet. The 10-time Atlantic 10 Champion Spiders return to action next Friday at William & Mary.
