UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va.- The men's soccer team heads to La Salle and Fordham to wrap up four-game road stretch this upcoming weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
The Spiders dropped a pair of decisions on the road last
weekend. Butler blanked Richmond 6-0 on
Friday. Sophomore defender Nick Butler
earned the first goal of Sunday's game against Saint Louis in the 54th
minute but the Billikens countered with two goals to secure the victory. Senior goalkeeper Chris Grover secured a
game-high six saves.
SCOUTING THE
EXPLORERS:
The Explorers are off to their best season start (8-3-2) since
1996 when the squad went 9-1-1 in the first eleven games. Head coach Pat
Ferrell earned his 200th career last weekend when his squad blanked
the Washington Colonials 4-0 on Friday.
Freshman midfielder Joe Farrell and junior midfielder Jason Plumhoff lead the Explorer attack with four goals and three assists each. Plumhoff leads the team with 41 shots and 20 shots on goal. In goal, junior John McCarthy has played 1230:10 minutes in the goal, leading the Explorers to seven shut outs this season. Last time out the Explorers defeated the Spiders 1-0 on October 2, 2010 at Robins Stadium.
SCOUTING THE RAMS:
Forham is tied for eighth place with Bucknell in the
NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Men's soccer poll after the
Rams went 1-0-1 in two A-10 matches last weekend. The Rams held #22 Charlotte to a tie on
Friday and defeated George Washington 2-1 on Sunday.
Sophomore midfielder Kalle Sotka and freshman forward Kyle Bitterman lead the Ram offense with two goals and two assists on the year. Defensively, sophomore goalie Sean Brailey has earned five shut outs this season and led the team to their 5-4-2 record. The Ram's defense has only allowed seven goals in eleven games. The last time to two squads met Richmond defeated Fordham 1-0 at Robins Stadium.
