Spider Tennis Opens Play at ITA Regional Tourney

Blacksburg, Va.- Spider women's tennis players Melissa Kandinata and Katya Salas opened play on Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional in Blacksburg, Virginia.  

"This is a great opportunity to test ourselves against the best players in the region," said head coach Mark Wesselink. "Every match is touch and only the strong survive."

In doubles action Melissa Kandinata and Katya Salas opened strong with an 8-2 win of Navy's Dequir and Ton in the double's qualifying round.  The duo is scheduled to play William and Mary's Cepeda and Nemchinov on Saturday at 8.

Melissa Kandinata opens in singles play on Saturday against Virginia's No. 8 ranked Maci Epstein in the main draw of 64.

The singles finalist and doubles champion from this Regional tournament will earn spots in the USTA/ ITA Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
