No. 16 Spiders Blank VCU In A-10 Semis

AMHERST, Mass. - Sophomore Rebecca Barry scored three goals as No. 16 ranked Richmond defeated VCU 5-0 Friday in the Atlantic 10 Semifinals.

The Spiders (16-4) have won 11-straight games and will play the winner of No. 18 Massachusetts and Temple on Saturday at 2 p.m. Richmond is going for its eighth Atlantic 10 Championship in the last 11 years.

Barry, who had scored two goals in each of her previous three games, had two goals by intermission on Friday. She scored just 5:05 into the match on an unassisted goal and then in the 30th minute on a reverse stick shot.

In the second half, the Limerick, Ireland native added her 18th goal of the season, including her ninth in the last four games.

Richmond senior Jackie Gyger scored her fifth goal of the season on an assist from Catherine Ostoich and Spider freshman Taylor Deitrick tallied her 12th goal of the year off an assist from freshman Avery Safford.

The Spiders had defeated VCU (13-6) earlier this season 3-1. Richmond has an 80-10 record against Atlantic 10 teams over the last 11 seasons.
