UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va.- The Richmond men's tennis team begins its spring season at the VCU 4 x1 this upcoming weekend. The Spider's face-off against Morgan State on Saturday and then will meet No. 31 VCU and instate rival James Madison on Sunday at VCU's Thalhimer Tennis Center.
The Spiders are coming off a fall campaign that included four tournaments and a trip to the ITA Atlantic Regionals.
Dylan Trent boasted a 6-1 record in fall play, earning the title of Wake Forest Invitational D2 Single's Champion. Teammate Ethan Dunbar advanced to the Round of 16 in the ITA Regional with a win over Virginia's Mitchell Polnet.
During fall play the Spiders faced the talents of all the teams they are slated to compete against this weekend.
The Spiders will play Morgan State at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Morgan State's Duk Young-Park was named to the Mid Eastern Atlantic second team last season after leading the Bears to their first MEAC North Division title.
On Sunday Richmond will start the day against VCU at 9 a.m. and are set to play JMU at 5 p.m.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings list VCU as the 31st best team in the country. The Rams won the Colonial Athletic Association title last year. VCU has two top-100 singles players, Max Wennakoski and Alexis Heugas, and a No. 36 ranked doubles duo.
Senior Ryan Pool leads the JMU Dukes squad. Pool went 11-2 in singles competition this fall including two flight titles at the East Carolina University Fall Shootout and the Elon University Invitational. Pool and his partner Robert Stirling earned a 10-1 record in fall play.
