RICHMOND, Va.- Coming off impressive performances this weekend at Rutgers and Fordham, junior Mali Kobelja was selected as Atlantic 10 Co-Performer of the Week and freshman Kelley Yang was tabbed Rookie of the Week, as announced by the A-10 office on Tuesday.
Kobelja, earns her second A-10 honor of the season and the fifth of her career after taking first place in all five of her individual events over the course of the weekend including the 100 free (52.00), 100 breast (1:05.06 and 1:05.55), 200 IM (2:06.02) and the 200 breast (2:20.41).
She helped her 400 freestyle relay earn a first place finish over Rutgers and Central Connecticut State on Friday and contributed to the first place medley relay against A-10 opponents, Fordham and La Salle on Saturday.
Yang picks up her first conference honor of her collegiate career after taking home three individual first place finishes including first place in the 50 free (23.38) and finishing first place in the 100 butterfly (55.47 and 56.04) at both meets. Yang's 55.47 100 fly at the Rutgers meet is the fourth fastest time in Spider swimming history.
On Friday Yang teamed up with Kobelja to take the top spot in the 400 freestyle relay.
Yang also finished second in the 200 fly, fifth in the 100 back, and helped lead her 200-medley relay team to a second place finish against Fordham and La Salle.The duo and the Spider Swim & Dive team welcomes Villanova to the Robins Center Natatorium on Friday Feb. 1 for a 5 p.m. match up against the Widlcats.
